About Samantha

Samantha “Sam” Harvell was a remarkable young lady whose courage, determination, and spirit continue to inspire others today.

Born to James and Angela (“Angie”) Harvell, Sam was a beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, and friend. She shared a special bond with her sister, Jamie Harvell Harris, and her brother, Josh Harvell. Family meant everything to Sam, and their love and support carried her through the challenges she faced.

After being diagnosed with osteosarcoma, Sam faced a difficult two-year battle with cancer. Throughout her journey, she remained spunky, energetic, friendly, and determined. She had a way of making people smile, lifting the spirits of those around her, and facing each challenge with strength beyond her years.

Sam never allowed her illness to define her. Instead, she chose to live with courage, optimism, and a love for life that touched everyone she met. Her infectious personality, quick wit, and determination left a lasting impression on family, friends, caregivers, and the many people fortunate enough to know her story.

On November 15, 2008, Sam passed away following her battle with osteosarcoma. Although her time here was far too short, her impact continues to be felt through Sam’s Wish Fund.

Before her passing, Sam asked Doug Shambley to continue helping children facing challenges similar to her own. He promised her he would, and that promise became the foundation of Sam’s Wish Fund. Today, her memory lives on through every wish granted, every smile created, and every child facing medical adversity who receives support through the fund that bears her name.

Sam’s story is one of courage, friendship, determination, and the lasting difference one person can make in the lives of others. Through Sam’s Wish Fund, her spirit continues to touch lives and remind us that even the smallest acts of kindness can make a tremendous difference.
